Usually, when you need electrical work done, you hire an electrician or an electrical contractor. These professionals install all of your electrical needs based on the local power supply companies and the power providers' nearest electrical cable lines and/or poles. What they do not do is create an account for your electrical services. To do that, you need to set up and/or make arrangements with an electrical contracting company. Here is more about what that means and why it is so different from contracting an electrical contractor.
Electrical Contracting via the Electrical Company
When a building needs electricity, and there are several providers in the area, the owner of the property and building has options as to who will provide the needed electricity. However, because it is a commercial property, the owner has to make an agreement with a selected electrical company to get electricity for the building. This is an electrical contract whereby the chosen electrical company is contracted to provide the electricity, wiring, electric meters, and equipment for the building in question. Other electricians or electrical contractors may be present to facilitate this initial installation of power in a new building, but they are not contracted employees of the electrical company itself.
How It Differs from Electrical Contractors
Electrical contractors make bids for large projects under construction that will need electrical wiring, electrical fuse boxes, installation of outlets and light switches, and installation of lighting fixtures. They are responsible for all of the above, but they are not responsible for providing the electricity or making arrangements with a power company to provide power company equipment and connections. The electrical contracting company, on the other hand, provides its meters, cables, and electrical connections under the commercial contracts it makes with commercial property owners. They do not install everything that the electrical contractors install, although their electrician(s) may facilitate the connections needed between the electrical company's equipment and the wiring and fuse boxes that the electrical contractor has already installed inside the building.
Electrical Companies That Outsource All Electrical Work
In some cities and states, electrical companies will outsource their contractual services and tasks to electrical contractors. In the event that a contractor happens to be the same one hired by the owner of the property to install everything electrical and is one hired by an electrical company for electrical servicing tasks for the selfsame property, the property owner gets all services in one convenient package. Be sure to check which electrical contractors also take outsourced work from electrical service companies if you only want to hire a single contractor for everything.
